Dear St. Paul Families and Friends:

Happy October! September flew by with being so busy at St Paul. During October, hopefully things will settle down a bit. As stated above, October is the month of the Holy Rosary. Classes will take time to pray the rosary together during this month. Each day we stop at 11:00 and pray the Angelus, another prayer to our Blessed Mother. If you happen to be in the building at that time, please stop and join us in prayer.

October is also Fire Prevention Month. On Thursday we will have our visit from the Fenton Fire Department. This is a fun and informative visit for the students especially our Primary who participate in a Smoke House on the parking lot. The firemen also take time and speak to the classes from K-5 and have lunch with our students. It’s a wonderful way for the students to see their presence and familiarize and review fire safety rules. It’s something they look forward to each year. Please do not be alarmed if you see the presence of firemen and trucks at school on Thursday. It is part of our yearly visit.

This weekend was a St. Paul weekend for me beginning with the 8th Grade Scavenger Hunt at Swing Around Fun Town. This is a tradition that kicks off special 8th grade activities for the year. The students begin with a scavenger hunt organized by Mrs. Coyle and then spend the rest of the time enjoying the facilities of the venue. It seems to me that the GO-CARTS were the biggest hit of the evening! Thank you, Mrs. Coyle for your time and effort in making this activity a success. It was obvious that the kids had a great time with their classmates.

The weekend ended with the First Eighth Grade Golf Tournament at Sunset Hills Golf Club. This was a day of adult entertainment beginning with lunch, 18 holes of golf and a banquet dinner at the end for awards. Hats off to the 8th grade parents for the hard work, your time and effort paid off for a fun event for the golfers of our parish. There were 120 golfers who participated beginning with a shot gun start. Parents, parishioners, and friends of St. Paul all came out and shared their support of our Class of 2019. Look for pictures on our St. Paul Facebook page. All proceeds for 8th grade fundraising efforts go to the sponsorship of activities to include 8th Grade Day-Out, Graduation, and the Graduation Dinner.

ITBS scores are due very soon. We will run off copies for parents and place them in the mail as soon as we receive them, that way we are sure that our parents receive them. This year I am planning on doing presentations explaining how to interpret ITBS scores and what the scores indicate through coffee get-togethers at the beginning of the day and end of the day, much like what we did last year for intruder training. This format seemed to be more convenient for parents to participate than a one PTO meeting in October. I am planning on holding the meetings the week of October 14th. I will have a schedule for the coffees for all 3-8th grade parents in next week’s bulletin board so please be on the look-out.

As you can see from the Week at a Glance schedule, our School Improvement Committee has been very hard at work. Every five years we are requested by the Archdiocese to complete a School Improvement Report. At the end of last year, parents and staff participate in a survey which contained valuable information for us to complete our report. The three committees of teachers, parents, and board members have worked throughout the summer answering questions around the topics of Catholic Identity, Education, and Institution. We are now in the process of putting this report together and writing growth goals and action plans for the improvement of our school. This exciting work gives us insight as to where we currently are as a school and in what direction we that intend to use to move us closer to our Vision. My intention is to post the report as well as the results in Links for those interested to review once the process is complete.

That just about does it for this week … until next,

With blessings from my heart,

 Eighth Grade students and families: The only thing I can say is WOW! Our 8th grade parents along with the students put on an impressive event this weekend. Hats off to you!

 St. Parish Families and Parishioners – It was so wonderful to see so many parish members support our 8th grade class in the golf tournament. What a wonderful display of support and fellowship.

 Mrs. Coyle – for organizing such a fun evening at Swing Around Fun Town. It was obvious how much the students enjoyed this kick-off activity. Tons of laughing and smiles all night long.

 Fenton Fire Department – Thank you for taking the time to visit with our children and continuing the yearly tradition of Fire Safety Week with the Smoke House Tour, classroom discussions and lunch with our students. You a very appreciated by our school families and friends.
